Cars could be towed from Sheffield streets for cycle hangar installation
A proposed Sheffield traffic order would restrict parking on parts of 19 roads for four weeks from Monday 2 November 2026 for cycle hangar works.
Sheffield City Council is proposing temporary parking restrictions on parts of 19 roads to allow secure cycle storage units to be installed.
Vehicles parked in the affected sections could be removed under the proposed order, according to The Star. The council has issued a public notice about the plans.
If approved, the order would take effect on Monday 2 November 2026 for four weeks. An extension would require Government approval. Residents would retain access to their homes during installation.

Secure bike storage
An individual space in a cycle hangar costs £72 a year. The council says it has received hundreds of requests for secure cycle parking and prioritises sites using demand, proximity to homes and high-density housing, cycle routes and centres.
The project has UK Government funding allocated to walking, wheeling and cycling, with additional support from Clean Air Zone funding.
