Sheffield candle maker grows spare-room hobby into business backed by Mel B
Meadow Farm Lifestyle has moved from a Sheffield spare room into a barn, with celebrity support and a feature on Channel 5’s Our Great Yorkshire Life.
A Sheffield candle-making business that began with a gift has expanded from a spare bedroom into a barn, attracting celebrity supporters and a television appearance.
Rachel Scott, founder of Meadow Farm Lifestyle, has seen her candles reach Mel B and the Spice Girls, while beauty industry figure Caroline Hirons has bought them. Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Scott said: “I’ve had a lot of support and that’s really helped my brand, which is invaluable to have those people backing you.”
Her candles are stocked by Hoopers in Harrogate and Harewood Farm shop. A further expansion is planned, alongside a forthcoming collaboration with perfume brand Olfactive O to benefit Beauty Banks.
Farm life catches a producer’s attention
Scott’s Instagram posts combined her candle-making with life on the farmstead. The following she built attracted Chloe, a producer on Channel 5’s Our Great Yorkshire Life, who invited Scott and her husband Philip to appear.
Their television segment included pig auctions, beekeeping and candle pouring. Viewers also saw the couple create ‘Cluckingham Palace’, a chicken coop fitted with wallpaper and disco balls.
Scott described the programme as welcoming, saying: “It’s a real feel-good show, like a warm hug, I would say.” She said viewers had responded positively and wanted to see more of the couple.
Alongside running the business, the couple take in injured farm animals and support charities, including Ukraine Yorkshire Aid Charity.
