Sydie Peck hat-trick fires Sheffield United to comeback win at Preston

Sydie Peck’s first-half hat-trick earned Sheffield United a 3-2 win at Preston North End on Tuesday 3 November, giving the Blades successive victories for the first time this season.

The midfielder became the first United player to score a hat-trick since Billy Sharp in 2019, according to The Star. His goals overturned an early deficit at Deepdale against the side bottom of the table.

United manager Chris Wilder was delighted with Peck’s overall contribution, The Star reported, as the Blades continued their improved run.

Peck turns the match around

Preston had gone ahead after only two minutes. Andrija Vukcevic sent in a low cross from the left, and Andrew Moran’s miscued attempt fell to Leo Leroy, who scored over Michael Cooper.

Peck’s equaliser came from an intended cross which sailed beyond everyone in the penalty area and into the net. For his second, he regained possession before Ben Brereton Diaz played him through. With the Preston goalkeeper committed, Peck made room to shoot and finished into the top-right corner.

Harrison Burrows then carried the ball almost the full length of the pitch before finding Romelle Donovan. His low delivery set up Peck to complete his treble before the interval.

Preston reduced the deficit in the 77th minute, but United held on to take the points.

Donovan supplies the assist

Donovan’s contribution continued his run in Wilder’s side, with the winger providing the final pass for Peck’s third goal.

Jairo Riedewald also featured for just under an hour at Deepdale. The midfielder made 30 passes with a 91 per cent completion rate, having last appeared in a nine-minute substitute outing during United’s 3-0 victory over Lincoln City.
