Joined Up Heritage Sheffield seeks specialist to review city’s heritage strategy
Joined Up Heritage Sheffield is seeking a specialist to assess its community-led strategy and update its action plan between January and June 2027.
Sheffield’s community-led approach to heritage is to be reviewed, with Joined Up Heritage Sheffield inviting bids for a specialist to assess the strategy and revise its action plan.
The six-month project will take place between January and June 2027, The Star reports. The organisation wants a facilitator who knows the local area to examine what the strategy has achieved, how widely it has reached and whether it remains relevant.
Public views will be central to the work. The contractor will gather feedback through face-to-face workshops, public gatherings and online channels, as well as find further evidence to support the strategy.
Published in 2021 following workshops involving Sheffield’s heritage community, the strategy is believed to have been the country’s first grassroots, community-led heritage strategy.
Sheffield City Council later adopted it. This led to the appointment of a permanent, full-time Heritage Development Manager and recognition of an elected member’s role as Heritage Champion.
The review covers a broad understanding of heritage: things from the past that people value and want future generations to inherit. Alongside buildings and landscapes, that includes crafts, traditions, radical histories, archives, legends, faiths, languages and songs.
