Storm Boelo: car crushed in Nether Edge and almost 300 homes lose power

Storm Boelo brought fallen trees and power cuts to Sheffield over the weekend of Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, with damage reported in Nether Edge and Hillsborough.

A beech tree blown down on Union Road in Nether Edge crushed a grey Audi, The Star reports. Trees also fell on nearby Psalter Lane and across a path in Hillsborough Park.

In the S20 postcode area, households in Beighton and around Crystal Peaks were affected by electricity outages on Sunday 25 October. Northern Powergrid reported almost 300 homes without electricity because of “bad weather”, with reports arriving at about 2pm. Outages were also reported that evening.

Strong winds swept through Sheffield late on Saturday 24 October and for much of Sunday 25 October, accompanied by intermittent rain. A yellow wind warning covered much of northern Britain and Scotland over the weekend, with South Yorkshire at its southern edge.

Boelo followed Storm Austen on Friday 23 October, making it the second named storm to reach the UK in two days.
