Fans queue for Pulp pop-up pub at Sheffield’s Hallamshire Hotel
Fans queued before midday to get into a Pulp-themed pop-up at the Hallamshire Hotel on West Street, held to mark the band's civic honour in Sheffield.
Pulp have taken over the Hallamshire Hotel on West Street in Sheffield city centre for a temporary pop-up pub, and fans queued before it opened at midday, Examiner Live reports.
The takeover marks a civic honour the band received outside Sheffield Town Hall on the afternoon of Friday 30 October. Before the ceremony, Pulp members Nick Banks and Candida Doyle went to the pub to meet fans.
Inside, the pub has been decorated with posters and artwork from the band’s archive. Visitors could buy limited edition t-shirts, posters, records and other exclusive items.
The Hallamshire Hotel is where Pulp first performed, in 1980. Frontman Jarvis Cocker spoke about the link with the venue. “There’s this thing coming on at the Hallamshire today and that’s the first pub we played. I wasn’t even old enough to go in a pub,” he said.
A similar pub in Manchester
The band ran a similar, packed-out residency at the Rat & Pigeon pub in Manchester. It accompanied their headline show at Wythenshawe Park in August.
It has been a busy few months for the band. Their documentary-concert film, Pulp: What Do You Do for an Encore?, directed by Garth Jennings, is streaming worldwide on MUBI. They have also released Live!, a live album and soundtrack, through Rough Trade Records.
