Sheffield Wednesday head coach search: Jimmy Thelin linked with Hillsborough job
Sheffield Wednesday are interviewing candidates to replace Henrik Pedersen as head coach, with Jimmy Thelin and Dave Challinor among the names linked.
Sheffield Wednesday are working through a shortlist of candidates to replace Henrik Pedersen as head coach at Hillsborough, following confirmation that Pedersen has left the club.
According to The Star, a number of candidates are moving through interview stages. Those selected will go on to hold talks with the Owls chief executive and ownership figures. The club is also understood to have spoken to the assistants of prospective appointments.
Wednesday want a management team that can give the side a distinct style of play. The club is not looking to rush into a decision driven by the need to win promotion this season.
Who is in the frame
Former Stockport County manager Dave Challinor is believed to be among those under consideration. The list is thought to have been cut down as the process moves on. The Star reports that the names still in the running cover a range of career profiles. They suggest a preference for front-foot football, and candidates from the UK and abroad are understood to be under consideration.
Scottish media reports have linked Wednesday with Jimmy Thelin. The 48-year-old Swede has managed FC Ljungarum, Jönköpings Södra IF and Elfsborg. He is best known in the UK for his time at Aberdeen between 2024 and 2026, when he won the Scottish Cup after a penalty shootout victory over Celtic.
Other reports have named Notts County manager Martin Paterson as a candidate. Any move for Paterson could be complicated, as the club would have to pay compensation. Dean Holden, assistant manager at Hull City, was also linked with the job but has since signed a new contract with the Tigers.
