Sheffield Wednesday face fitness decisions in defence before hosting Blackpool at Hillsborough on Sunday 1 November, with three defenders due to be assessed.

Interim head coach Matt Hamshaw said Liam Cooper, Di’Shon Bernard and Ricardo Santos were among the players needing fitness tests, according to The London Owls. Their availability will shape his squad selection, while Jamal Lowe is ruled out as he completes a three-match suspension.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Friday 30 October, Hamshaw said: “The fortunate thing is we’ve got an extra 24 hours compared to what we normally would have. We trained on Friday, we’ll train on Saturday and then let’s see.”

Wednesday go into the match ninth in League One with 19 points following their midweek home draw against Cambridge. Blackpool sit one place clear of the relegation zone.

Former Wednesday loan goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell is likely to start for Blackpool. Jerry Yates, who also had a loan spell with the Owls, could feature in the visitors’ squad.

Remembrance tribute before kick-off

The match is Wednesday’s official Remembrance Day fixture, honouring British military and civilian service in both World Wars and subsequent conflicts.

A brief silence will precede the Last Post. North Stand supporters will be asked to raise cards to form a poppy mosaic, and the players will wear shirts bearing poppies.

Supporters are asked to be seated earlier than usual for the tribute. Turnstiles will open at 12.30pm on Sunday 1 November, ahead of kick-off at 2pm.
