Dalton Smith retains world title in Sheffield homecoming against Alberto Puello
Sheffield boxer Dalton Smith retained his WBC super-lightweight title against Alberto Puello at the Utilita Arena on Saturday 24 October.
Dalton Smith kept his WBC super-lightweight world title in Sheffield on Saturday 24 October, bringing a successful defence to his home city after winning the belt in Brooklyn earlier in 2026.
The Sheffield Star reported that Smith retained his title against Alberto Puello at Sheffield Arena. The bout at the Utilita Arena followed his victory over Subriel Matias, which made him world champion at the start of the year, according to Rayo.
Before facing Puello, Smith had said he would be open to fighting British rival Adam Azim in 2027. The pair have a long-running feud, although Smith stressed that his immediate priority was the defence against Puello.
Speaking to the Press Association before the contest, Smith said winning the world title had not changed his daily routine or his work in the gym. He also said he wanted to keep the belt in 2027 and make a fight with Azim happen.
