Henrik Pedersen faces fans’ anger after Wednesday lose 2-0 at Doncaster
Sheffield Wednesday fans called for Henrik Pedersen to be sacked during a 2-0 defeat at Doncaster, with Cambridge United next at Hillsborough.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen faced calls for his dismissal as a 2-0 defeat at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday 24 October brought a second consecutive league loss.
Travelling supporters chanted for Pedersen to be ‘sacked’ and booed during the South Yorkshire derby, with anger also evident at the interval and final whistle.
Wednesday conceded twice in the opening 16 minutes. Their performance improved in the second half, but they could not recover from that early deficit. The result followed their midweek defeat at Notts County.
Pedersen told The Star: “I’m hurting because it’s not who we want to be.” He said he shared supporters’ anger and wanted his side to sustain a higher standard across the full 90 minutes rather than in spells.
Asked whether he could regain fans’ backing, Pedersen said: “I burn for this football club. I love this football club. I can feel that we are close – the players and me – and we are ready to come out of this.”
Wednesday host Cambridge United at Hillsborough on Tuesday 27 October, with a crowd approaching 30,000 expected. The Star reports that the match could be important to Pedersen’s future as manager.
