Wrexham fined over O’Hare eligibility error after Sheffield United move
Wrexham have been fined £75,000, with £25,000 suspended, over two eligibility breaches, including one involving former Sheffield United player Callum O’Hare.
Wrexham have received a £75,000 fine from the EFL for two player eligibility breaches, including naming Callum O’Hare among their substitutes after his departure from Sheffield United, The Star reports.
Of that penalty, £25,000 is suspended under an agreed decision between the club and the EFL. The other breach involved Issa Kaboré.
O’Hare was not registered in time for Wrexham’s Championship match at Millwall on Wednesday 2 September 2026. He remained an unused substitute as Wrexham won 3–0 at The Den. According to The Star, playing him could have exposed the club to a points deduction.
His transfer from Bramall Lane, completed in the closing hours of the window, was worth around £7m. He has yet to score for Wrexham.
The earlier breach occurred in the defeat at Birmingham City on Friday 28 August 2026, when Kaboré played as a substitute despite being ineligible. Wrexham had the required right-to-work documents but had failed to submit them correctly to the EFL.
Wrexham said the club was taking steps to prevent further eligibility errors.
